Thank you for your interest in observing with us! Whilst our recruitment for the elections on May 7th 2026 has now closed, any new positions will be advertised on this page. Alternatively, you can subscribe to our mailing list if you’d like to receive communications from us. Please have a look over this page to learn more about what election observation with Democracy Volunteers involves.
New to Election Observation?
Most of our observers who have no previous experience will start by observing a UK election – as a voluntary organisation, all of our observers fund their own participation (although we can often give a small amount towards travel and food on UK election days). By observing a UK election first, you can get a good understanding of what election observation and volunteering with Democracy Volunteers involves, without the time and monetary commitment of an international observation.
By registering to observe a UK election with us, you are agreeing to commit approximately 25 hours of your time – this will include a brief, informal interview when you initially apply; around 6 hours of online training; an pre-deployment briefing; and your work on polling day itself (polls are open 7am – 10pm).
We ask all first time observers to upload a CV (or similar) so we can understand more about your prior experiences. If you have any questions please check our New Observer FAQs, otherwise feel free to bring them up at your initial interview or contact us.
Recruitment has now closed for the May 2026 Elections, recruitment for the May 2027 Elections will open in the Autumn, but you can join our mailing list here to get up to date information about all our deplyoments.
