Observing elections to improve democracy
We deployed a team of 24 observers to oversee the voting for the new Police and Crime Commissioners. We focused on the Devon and Cornwall region which allowed us to focus work in the area where most of the student volunteers were resident.
Of particular interest in this election was the new Supplementary Vote (SV) system being used for the first time in the English regions.
Voters reported no problems understanding the system to the team although in some cases turnout was noticeably low.
